Halogen
headlamps
Halogen bulbs have been deployed in headlamps since
the mid sixties. In comparison to their predecessor
types, Halogen bulbs provide more light and last longer.
They are used for all light functions at the front of
the vehicle, such as low beam, high beam, fog lamps
or position light.
Headlamp components, such as low
beams or fog lamps, distribute light according to
a pattern with a light/dark boundary. Below this boundary
the widest possible field of vision is realized for
the driver, while at the same time, the drievers approaching
in the opposite direction are protected from excessive
light. This area of reduced illumination is ensured
using shield positioned around the bulb, or through
the precise guidance of the light ray with the help
of the reflector and, if necessary, other optical
components. Depending on the particular headlamp design,
either reflection systems (lamp and reflector) or
projection systems (lamp and reflector and projection
lens) are used for low and high beam functions.
